I följande exempel sparas värdena för ConsoleColor uppräkningen i en matris och de aktuella värdena BackgroundColor för egenskaperna och ForegroundColor sparas i variablerna. Den ändrar sedan förgrundsfärgen ConsoleColor till varje färg i uppräkningen förutom till den färg som matchar den aktuella bakgrunden, och ändrar bakgrundsfärgen till varje färg i ConsoleColor uppräkningen förutom till den färg som matchar den aktuella förgrunden. Kommentarer

En get-åtgärd för ett Windows-baserat program, där en konsol inte finns, returnerar Gray. Unix-system tillhandahåller ingen allmän mekanism för att hämta de aktuella konsolfärgerna. Därför returneras ForegroundColor tills den har angetts på ett explicit sätt (med hjälp av (ConsoleColor)-1 setter).
