Som standard spelas pipet upp med en frekvens på 800 hertz under 200 millisekunder.

Beep omsluter ett anrop till funktionen Windows Beep. Om Beep genererar ett ljud på versioner av Windows innan Windows 7 beror på förekomsten av ett 8254 programmerbart intervalltimerchip. Från och med Windows 7 beror det på standardljudenheten.
